The first two miles of trail lead through forest of pine, fir, and spruce, occasionally passing alongside Alpine Brook.

Adding to the interest, is a walk through part of the area that was ravaged by fire in 1978, although most of the trail passes through forest whose lush growth reflects the aboundance of moisture in the area. For those who enjoy the sight and sound of rushing water and the rich environments it fosters, this trail will be a favorite. Ouzel Falls takes its name from a lark-sized, mousy-gray birdthe ouzeloften seen cavorting in white water.
